“We save what we love, we love what we understand, we understand what we are taught.” – Baba Diome, Senegalese Naturalist
Education is central to the mission of the Osoyoos Desert Society and an integral part of its habitat conservation and restoration efforts. As natural spaces become increasing scarce, there are fewer places for people to experience and learn about the natural world. Opportunities to connect with and better understand the environment are essential to successfully conserving it for future generations.
At the Desert Centre, the Society provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the local environment through guided and self-guided tours, hands-on exhibits, interpretive signage, and a native plant demonstration garden. In addition to activities at the Desert Centre, the Society offers a variety of activities throughout the year, including workshops, lectures, community presentations, and special events. Staff are also available year-round to provide information and resources to the community.
